If you have not already used Latinos Unidos Siempre’s (LUS) action tool to submit public testimony for the August 11, 2020 School Board meeting, please do so now. Make it clear that you want to see the Salem-Keizer School District end the Student Resource Officer (SRO) program immediately. For more information about the SRO Program, including the cost (roughly $13,339 per officer, per month), click this link here. Below is a link to LUS’ action tool:
Yesterday, an individual posted the following on her public Facebook page regarding the Salem-Keizer Schools Student Resource Officer program, and as you can see, Salem-Keizer School Board Director Marty Heyen commented. In the same Facebook thread, Marty Heyen can be clearly seen coaching someone with a Confederate flag as their profile pic (Pamela Blake, a “proud rebel”) regarding how they can submit public testimony for the upcoming School Board meeting in favor of Marty Heyen’s stance.
Director Heyen’s words speak for themselves. Keep in mind, Marty Heyen is serving in a non-partisan position. It is disturbing, to say the least, that a School Board Director is trying to scare community members with an illogical doomsday scenario in an apparent attempt to get them to submit targeted public testimony in favor of the Director’s harmful policy stance.
